Athlete Services
Wide Bay Sports Academy is an independent and not-for profit organisation that provides scholarships to emerging athletes excelling in their chosen sport.
Applications are accepted by individual athletes or their sporting clubs. WBSA is currently accepting applications for the following sports:
- Football
- Cycling
- Rowing
- Triathalon
- Basketball
- Skate
- Future stars
- Surf Lifesaving
Selection Process
Appointment to the Wide Bay Sports Academy is by nomination, which must be received by the closing date specified. Each applicant, along with their parent or guardian, will then be interviewed and provided information about the upcoming program and the schedule.
Each sport has a different timeline, but generally the program will start within one month of being selected.
Benefits to athletes
- Opportunities to attend education weekend and educational events - topics such as nutrition, sports psychology, sports integrity and more. This is a two-day event with a half-day orientation.
- Discounted S&C plan development and reviews
- Yearly Physio screening at beginning of program Gym sessions run by exercise physiologists. Fortnightly during the program

- Access to advanced Sports Science Athlete Testing at beginning and end of program

Athlete obligations
The Wide Bay Sports Academy is a competitive program. As such, the WBSA expects scholarship holders to be fully committed to the Academy program. Athletes are expected to demonstrate this commitment by having a 100% attendance rate (within reason).
