About Us
Wide Bay Sports Academy (WBSA) was established from the desire to give talented athletes the opportunity to develop their sporting potential without having to leave the Wide Bay Region.
Taking in students from local government areas of Bundaberg, Fraser Coast and North Burnett, the WBSA program offers quality support and development opportunities to assist talented young athletes achieve sporting excellence.
Based at Central Queensland University Bundaberg Campus, Queensland, WBSA is an independent and not-for-profit organisation that first began in August 2020 as the Central Queensland Sports Academy, before changing its name in March of 2022.
Our Academy works closely with and is supported by professional associations AUSCycling Queensland, Rowing Queensland, Basketball Queensland, Triathlon Queensland, Surf Lifesaving Queensland, Australian Skateboarding Federation and CQUniversity.

Our Mission
Our purpose – to provide regional athletes with accessible advanced training, education and testing, with the intention of providing a link between clubs and Queensland/Australian representation and elite sporting clubs
How It Works
Our job is to support athletes aged 13 – 19 on their journey from playing for their local club to reaching state and national levels, alongside their club coaches.
We providing ‘one percenters’:
- Physiotherapy
- Access to gyms
- Strength and conditioning training
- Injury Prevention and recovery
- Nutrition education
- Hydration testing
- Media and social media training
- Fatigue Management
